The first time you experience such tragedy, it takes some time to accept that you may never again feel cocky or invincible or carefree, but if you let go of your pride and embrace the willingness of friends and family to stand beside you and lift you back to your feet, you will come to recognize that there are other feelings and experiences and people worth living–and living passionately–for.

This piece deserves a read. For me, the take-away point was that we shouldn’t fear tragedy, disability, or the inevitability of death. Embrace this life, right here and right now, with appreciation and respect. Here’s a quote:

I believe that if, at the end of it all, according to our abilities, we have done something to make others a little happier, and something to make ourselves a little happier, that is about the best we can do. To make others less happy is a crime. To make ourselves unhappy is where all crime starts. We must try to contribute joy to the world. That is true no matter what our problems, our health, our circumstances. We must try. I didn’t always know this, and am happy I lived long enough to find it out.

A welcome reminder that “tragedy” is often a harbinger of MOJO.
